Couple Portraits - Sydney

I love a great photography story. Chris and Jeremy were such fun to shoot. They had recently moved up from Melbourne to Balmain in Sydney. Not far from my photography studio in Rozelle. And they love it here. I think it's the weather! I love this couple portrait shoot because the boys are just so relaxed. Photographing a committed gay couple was just like any other portrait shoot. Whenever possible I like to meet my couples before the photography session to get to know them better, in doing so they feel more relaxed around me as well. Which then helps create more natural and intimate moments between the couple during the portrait shoot.

They love food and wine and their new hometown, so we wanted to incorporate that feeling into their portraits. The photography locations were at The Lodge Bar where they are often seen on weekends, Darling Street Balmain, Emile's Fruit & Vegetables and their lovely terrace house. We wanted to capture natural images of the guys at locations that had sentimental meaning for them. You can tell in the photographs how relaxed they are and how much fun they had doing the portrait shoot.

I love photographing new young families. Full of energy and excitement. How cute is their little boy!

The Balmain peninsula has some wonderful portrait locations.  This young family lived locally in Rozelle so the relaxed photography session at Ballast Point in Birchgrove was natural choice for these guys. When photographing families it can be a nice idea to have the photography shoot in an area where they are currently living. For sentimental value.

Romantic Couple Portraits - Balmain Sydney

Being in love is wonderful! And what's just as wonderful is enjoying a fun and romantic couple portrait photography shoot. Don't wait till the wedding day to have some natural and even contemporary portraits taken of the two of you. Express your love now - why wait?

Autumn and winter are beautiful times in Sydney to have a family or couple portraits session. I have many favourite spots around Sydney Harbour to photograph loving couples like Caroline and Mario. They looked so beautiful together and they were so cool to shoot. They were happy for me to go a bit whacky with angles and playing with the setting sun. I really enjoyed photographing these guys.

Like most people the start of a portrait shoot can be a little intimidating and you may feel a bit self conscious. Remember that's to be expected. Because I love people and lets face it I'm a social person! i have a knack of making my couples and families feel relaxed quite quickly. Every one of my clients are amazed at how much fun a professional portrait shoot can be.

Wouldn't it be nice to have your loved ones photographed this winter?

Sydney Photographic Art Prize "Shoot the Chef"- 2008 Finalist!

Welcome to the relaunch of my "Personal Photography" section being on my website. ABOUT TIME!!

Every week I will blogging about some off my past personal projects and previous entries in some of Australia's leading photographic art competitions.

As well as new stuff of course !!

So the inaugural image is one of most my memorable. It was a fun creative shoot at my previous studio in Balmain which was just around the corner from my current studio in Mansfield street Rozelle. And yes it was real bathtub; yes they had pants on; and no they did not reuse the 10 kgs of coffee beans and yes we had a great time shooting it.

I captured this image in 2008, the first of four concurrent entries that were finalists in the same competition. More to come!!  Titled "Bath Time - They love their coffee so much they bathe in it" I shot the image for the Sydney Morning Herald's "Shoot The Chef Photographic Competition", which runs in October during the Good Food Month. The subjects were Alberto and Antonio Locano of Bertoni Casalinga who serve awesome coffee and traditional home style Italian food at their cafes in Balmain, Balmoral Beach and the Sydney CBD.

I'm always on the lookout for new quirky photography subjects and art projects. If you have an idea just drop me line and we'll chat.

Sydney Harbour Wedding - At Balmain & Luna Park.

In the middle of the silly season between Christmas and New Year, Linda and Wayne tied the knot in Sydney. The ceremony was performed locally on the Balmain peninsula, near my photography studio, under a majestic Morton Bay Fig Tree.

The couple and their guests enjoyed perfect wedding weather as they took a classic Sydney Harbour Ferry ride to Luna Park. While the guests enjoyed drinks and canapés at Aqua Dining above North Sydney Olympic Pool, the bride and groom had some fun inside Luna Park with the clowns and stilt walkers. The evening reception sparkled with a stunning harbour backdrop, providing a memorable finish to a wonderful day.

Congratulations to Linda & Wayne.
