Mackintosh Photography Sydney Family Portraits

The school holidays are a great time to have the family professionally photographed. Everyone is more relaxed and our photography studio has more photography sessions available during the week.

Megan and Paul thought that too, when I photographed their family during the holidays. Megan's parents were also visiting the family from New York, so what a perfect time to update the family portrait! Extended family photo shoots are great fun and so meaningful. Its wonderful getting mum and dad, all the kids and off course the grandparents involved too.

I love photographing kids with their parents having a fun time. Its so rewarding and priceless, helping my clients preserve their family's legacy.

I selected a great photography location near the studio in Rozelle. The park is at Birchgrove with stunning Sydney Harbour Views, the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney skyline. The park itself is right on the harbours' edge. You can even get you feet wet. Its such a wonderful place, lots of Sydney's famous sandstone, gum trees, the odd fisherman, and a large grassed area for the kids to run around on.

So for the next school holidays in winter, if you love candid, spontaneous and natural photo's of your children. Call the studio today and ask us about our winter special Offer.

Beautiful Baby Photo shoot

One of the best and most rewarding things I love about been a photographer, is the ongoing relationships I have with my families. I photographed Amanda and Matt ‘s lovely Sydney harbour wedding at Jones Bay Wharf. And now they're the proud parents of baby Felix. I must have done great at their wedding. For them to want me back!! If you look carefully you can see one of their black and white wedding photographs in background.

For newborn or baby photos I usually prefer to do the photography shoot in the convenience of your home. In this case their apartment in Pyrmont. The reason I prefer home study portrait shoots, is because babies can be unpredictable with their sleep patterns and feeds. So its more comfortable for mum and baby to be at home.  I take my time with these shoots and if necessary mum can feed the child if they are unsettled. While this is happening I can photograph the other family members, like the babies brother or sisters.

Portrait of an Australian Governor General

Today, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd). Was sworn in as the nation's 26th Governor-General. Congratulations.

Today's events reminds me of the opportunity I had to photograph the former Governor General Dame Quentin Bryce at the Ethnic Business Awards. These were held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney in 2009.

I really love this black & white candid portrait. I love it because it's such a wonderfully natural and spontaneous photograph of Quentin.

Editorial Style Corporate Portraits - Walsh Bay

Pier 8/9 Walsh Bay Sydney was the place for a fun corporate shoot last week at Atomic. Cool name too. They're a hip digital marketing agency with a mission to deliver outstanding digital strategy. I love shooting in creative spaces and Atomic had an awesome space to photograph and design from.

They recently merged with a couple of other advertising/strategy firms in Sydney and needed new branding and business portraits of the new team members and key staff. Some companies don't get the group photos cause they can be a challenge, but I got some great shots of everyone together.

There's always a bit of extra pressure shooting for an advertising agency. Their photographic brief was simple…. haha! Make the portraits creative and relaxed, with blurry backgrounds etc. Easier said than done sometimes but we achieved it in the allocated time we had. I'm a big fan of Black & White photography and portraits. Consider possibly having a mix of black & white images for your next photography shoot.

Often for corporate shoots like this I’ll bring along an experienced photographic assistant as they help make the day run smoothly, ultimately it means the client is happier. And so am I.

Enjoy the photos.

Sydney Photographic Art Prize "Shoot the Chef"- 2008 Finalist!

Welcome to the relaunch of my "Personal Photography" section being on my website. ABOUT TIME!!

Every week I will blogging about some off my past personal projects and previous entries in some of Australia's leading photographic art competitions.

As well as new stuff of course !!

So the inaugural image is one of most my memorable. It was a fun creative shoot at my previous studio in Balmain which was just around the corner from my current studio in Mansfield street Rozelle. And yes it was real bathtub; yes they had pants on; and no they did not reuse the 10 kgs of coffee beans and yes we had a great time shooting it.

I captured this image in 2008, the first of four concurrent entries that were finalists in the same competition. More to come!!  Titled "Bath Time - They love their coffee so much they bathe in it" I shot the image for the Sydney Morning Herald's "Shoot The Chef Photographic Competition", which runs in October during the Good Food Month. The subjects were Alberto and Antonio Locano of Bertoni Casalinga who serve awesome coffee and traditional home style Italian food at their cafes in Balmain, Balmoral Beach and the Sydney CBD.

I'm always on the lookout for new quirky photography subjects and art projects. If you have an idea just drop me line and we'll chat.

Sydney Harbour Wedding - At Balmain & Luna Park.

In the middle of the silly season between Christmas and New Year, Linda and Wayne tied the knot in Sydney. The ceremony was performed locally on the Balmain peninsula, near my photography studio, under a majestic Morton Bay Fig Tree.

The couple and their guests enjoyed perfect wedding weather as they took a classic Sydney Harbour Ferry ride to Luna Park. While the guests enjoyed drinks and canapés at Aqua Dining above North Sydney Olympic Pool, the bride and groom had some fun inside Luna Park with the clowns and stilt walkers. The evening reception sparkled with a stunning harbour backdrop, providing a memorable finish to a wonderful day.

Congratulations to Linda & Wayne.
